Happy Days in September

This week Alexis covered letter B! It was a lot of fun to incorporate the big kids into some of the "b" activities. In any free time we had, the kids had a blast playing barbies which was perfect for the week... It has worked out nicely for our schedule that we do Alexis's learning in the morning. Then we do PE, chores, and lunch together. After lunch "free play" time, Alexis takes a nap and the big kids do their core home school learning. If we stay focused, we usually start by 1:30 or 2:00 pm and are finished by 4:00 pm. So far, we have really liked that schedule!

Because Monday was Labor Day the big kids voted not to do school, so we played out side and made BIG bubbles for letter B week! It was so fun!

Then we played with beans in our sensory bin and found all the letter "b" items.

Put a bulldozer in order big to little...

And practiced our cutting/gluing skills with boat sails...

Alexis actually enjoys the tracing sheets, so we practiced tracing too.

On Tuesday we had fun with boxes!

It was a rainy day so we did "box races" for indoor PE.

Alexis did some color matching with beads...

and made a soft "B" bunny...

We finished up with a "bath time" puzzle.

For art this week we incorporated Kieryn & Ronan's history (ancient civilizations) and Alexis's letter learning into one! We made clay "bowls" or pinch pots similar to ancient cultures who made clay pottery.

They had to air dry for two-three days before we could paint and decorate them. We finished this on Friday...

We had fun with the beans multiple days...

On Wednesday we did a lesson with birds...

and balloons (indoor PE again because it was a cold and rainy day)

We even built a bus station out of blocks!

We had a blast playing bingo! Alexis was in charge of getting the balls out.

On Thursday we did counting, sorting, and color matching with buttons...

We even practiced balancing buttons on spoons while going around the couch and other obstacles. Ronan played too!

The kids all enjoyed their tummy time with Tyson... well, Tyson didn't really enjoy it...

but he recovered... :)

Later we used our binoculars and went on a bear hunt! We found 5 bears around the house!

We finished up with some tracing practice.

The kids made a homemade compass as part of their science experiment. It was really neat! They have enjoyed learning about magnets the past few weeks.

Friday was our "free day." We worked hard on Tuesday - Thursday to get all of our work done so the kids could stay up late to watch Chiefs football on Thursday night. We used Friday as a "free/fun" day!

We learned about yeast's role in bread making...

While it baked, we had book time...

and painted our bowls... it was another rainy/cold day so we couldn't paint outside so we had to paint in my craft room because we used acrylic paints...

When the bread was ready we experimented with some different toppings... Ronan's favorite was pizza sauce & cheese, Alexis liked chocolate, Kieryn liked butter, and I enjoyed PB & J!

On Saturday we had a lot of fun watching K-State football. Sad that they lost, but we cheered loud from the couch anyways!

Alexis was bored after the first quarter so I pulled out some of the bug activities we didn't get to do for "b" week because of the weather. She had a good time playing with the bugs!

Tyson is one cute little football! GO STATE! He will turn 1 month old next Satruday! So hard to believe!
