Really Radical Letter R

This week we practiced letter R. Ronan was more than excited to do this letter because it is "his" letter! We began on Monday with R/r raindrop letter matching. We watched a short clip about how rain and rainbows are made...

Then we attempted to make our own rain cloud using shaving cream and food coloring. Ronan chose green for the rain.

Then we tried making a rainbow. It worked but the angle was too hard for Ronan to get...

Then we did some water reflections using the sun from our back windows. It made reflections on the wall.

We finished by reading Noah and his Ark from our children's bible. We discussed why God sent a rainbow and how he keeps his promises.

That evening we did a rainbow experiment with Kieryn using skittles and water... It was really Rad!

On Tuesday I had Micah for preschool. We began the lesson by playing in rice...

Then we used rocket shooters for a name game...

The boys used the rockets to blast the letters that spelled their name...

Once they hit the letter they had to attach it to their rocket in the correct order (which spelled their name)...

When they finished we gave the rockets tails and turned on the song "rocket ship run" to practice counting backwards from 5.

Later we did some tracing...

That evening was our "kid fit" class and I decided to incorporated letter R. We did rock hopping...

Ball rolling races...

Rolling to knock over the jug...

And ropes! They were worn out!

On Wednesday Ronan went to Janell's. They did a robot sticker picture and made a neat railroad crossing sign to practice both cutting out a circle and tracing R.

On Thursday we did red rectangle math and a number-to-number R... Which we turned into a rabbit after connecting all the numbers 1-20.

On Friday we reviewed a bible verse that talkes about "running in such a way as to win the prize." This was a discussion lesson before heading into gymnastics... When inside we did a running race!

I guess this was a life lesson to wrap up the week... The kids got to help/mostly watch us process Raw meat. Now they know where hamburger comes from...We headed to Seneca on Saturday for a big day of butchering. Fun fun!!

Until next week!

Letter Q- quite fun!!

Over last weekend we were very crafty! We were stuck inside due to ice storm threat... So we did the best we could to keep busy!

We watched the Caywood's dog, Wagner, over the weekend. The kids loved it.

There was no school on Monday for Kieryn due to Martin Luther King Jr. day, so she helped us start our new letter, Q.

We continued on Tuesday with q-tip painting. Before painted we did listening practice and I asked the boys to put their q-tip on various things on their paper. After we found all the shapes, we did painting/tracing.

Then we looked at coins and described the differences and similarities.

Then we did quarter counting. I have them a number and they had to count out that number.

We ended with a q-tip maze. The boys loved it and played for a long time with it.

They had a fun day!!

On Wednesday Ronan was at Janell's while I worked at the gym.

On Thursday we did Q/q matching. We talked about Queen Esther from the bible.

Tracing...

Then we did a pattern with squares to make a quilt.

On Thursday night we did a quick sand activity with Kieryn. The kids loved the goo! It was cornstarch and water, super fun!

On Friday we went to gymnastics and I left my phone at home... So no pics.... But on the way we played a question game and made plans to do quick feet and quick running when we got to the gym. We had a lot of fun! Later when we read books we looked for the question mark in the text. Ronan was good at finding them!

On Saturday we visited family in Auburn. It was wonderful to see everyone! Happy birthday to all the Jan./ Feb. birthdays!

Until next time!

Alphabet Review Week!

We took this week to do a letter review! Monday was a big "errand day" for me so I decided to use it as a teaching/learning time. I would hand various items to Ronan as he sat in the shopping cart and either ask him to find a letter or ask him what letters he saw on the package. His favorite place for this game was at Hobby Lobby when I asked him to find a few things that began with various letters... He wanted to buy the three pictured here... Taking a pic was the only way I could get him to leave the items at the store... He really wanted to buy them but I said we couldn't buy that day...we negotiated that I'd keep a pic so we could look at it later. He was satisfied.

On Tuesday I did a review with Micah and Ronan using puzzles. First we did a train and practiced the alphabetical order...lots of singing of course...

Then we did letter sounds... I would say the letter sound and they took turns finding the letter that made that sound. If they weren't sure I gave them the letter so they could find the match.

On Wednesday Ronan was with Janell for letter P review. Try did a pepperoni pizza dice/counting game, they made pizza, and later made a play dough porcupine.

On Thursday we practiced matching uppercase to lower case...Ronan could find nearly all of them!

We ended the week with an alphabet snow ball fight. We included Kieryn because I thought she would have fun with it. The snow balls had the lower case letter... Once they said the letter on the snowball they had to find the upper case and hit it with the "snowball"! Very fun!

Until next time! Stay warm and safe this weekend!
