Kids in the kitchen!

We took the week off from the curriculum! It was a good time in our curriculum to talk more in depth about healthy eating, cooking safety, and what food does in our bodies. Last Thursday we ended our science lesson talking about the importance of eating healthy. I thought it would be fun to dig in a little deeper...

We started our Monday talking about vegetables and oven safety. We had fun making zucchini and carrot muffins!

Each afternoon we had a "tea time" and talked about healthy eating and kitchen safety.

We made fun vegetable faces and had apple cider. We learned about why we eat vegetables.

On Tuesday we started our day with some fun food science. We made rock candy... well we started the process. It takes 10 days so I'll update the blog with the progress.

At Tuesday's "tea time" we made fruit pizza and and had peach tea. We talked about the importance of fruit in our diet. We also talked about safety with cutting and knives.

It was a beautiful night for a picnic so we took advantage of it!

On Wednesday we talked about grains. We thought we would experiment with making soft pretzels. We made regular and whole wheat. We  noticed differences in the dough and the flavor.

For "tea time" we made tasty toast and experimented with different spreads. We tried blueberry tea but it wasn't a favorite. It was the perfect day to discuss safety in using the toaster as well.

On Thursday we did a cheese tasting while we watched videos on cheese making, history of cheese, and the importance of dairy in our diets.

Then we had fun learning to draw a fridge... I was impressed with Alexis's! She turned it into a fridge robot!

That afternoon we talked about healthy proteins and made tasty pinwheels with different fillings while enjoying some raspberry tea. We also discussed microwave safety.

On Friday we talked about the importance of drinking enough water. We played a fun food move it game...

Then at "tea time" we made yummy churro burritos and had apple cider. We took time to talk about why we have to be mindful of the amount of sweets we eat and healthy desserts...

Overall it was a fun week in the kitchen and a nice break from the routine!
And it was yummy!

Rock candy at 4 days.

Super Special Week!

This week the big kids finished week 25 of our curriculum and Alexis had fun learning about letter S!

We started our lesson with some sensory play in split peas and pretended to make soup.

This is what our typical Monday morning looks like when we start school. I feel very lucky when everyone is happily working or playing!

It was a perfect week for letter "s" as there was snow on the ground most of the week. Sadly, it was SUPER cold so we didn't get to enjoy it until towards the end of the week.

We practiced our shapes...

...then we made stick shapes!

On Tuesday we ran the fire place a LOT! We awoke to a very bitterly cold morning...

We did a sticker "S"...

and made fun straw paintings for art time...

Tyson is really up on his knees... we tried to get him to move forward by putting Steven's phone just out of reach. He's so close to crawling!

Kansas is so crazy! The temperatures warmed up a lot by Tuesday afternoon!

On Wednesday we did scissor practice and made a scary spider!

We had time to practice putting on socks and shoes by herself....

AND THEN WE SPRINTED!

Finally warmer to go outside and sled and play in the snow!

Alexis got to make a yummy dessert for her dinner night...

We did cup stacking while we waited for them to cool...

She loved adding the sprinkles!

On Thursday we played in sand and made seashell prints.

We talked about things you might see at the seashore. Then we ALL got shark tattoos!

WOW! Tyson turned 6 months old on Friday...

He has truly been a blessing and such a wonderful completion to our family!

Love these little cuties!!
