Zippy letter Z!

It's hard to believe that our alphabet is already over! Ronan acted suprised and excited that it was the last and final letter after singing the ABC song. He asked, "Mom, what will be do for lessons if we are done with the alphabet?"... My response was, "It'll just be a surprise!"

We began letter Z week with tracing...

We also spent extra time learning how zippers work and getting the zipper up and down by himself!

I surprised him with a "Z" snack... zebra cakes!

They were a hit!

On Tuesday we decided to do the lesson outside to enjoy the beautiful weather! We worked again on tracing, but also spent some time on cutting zig-zags!

Then we got out the sidewalk chalk and I drew a giant zig-zag! First they had to try to trace/draw one next to mine...

Then they had to run on the zig-zag without "falling off."

These two ended the sunny day in the awesome rock box that Steven BUILT! They played here for a long time!

On Wednesday Ronan did zoo pretend with Aunt Janell!

Then on Thursday we practiced more with zoo friends and practiced counting and finding which was different.

Then we used stamps to make a "zoo story" picture.

Later that day we joined Micah and Gavin for lunch at the zoo! (We brought zebra snacks to share!)

These boys had sooooo much fun!!

On Friday we practiced number zero...

Then we baked zucchini muffins! Yummy!!

What a great end to the alphabet! Excited that summer is getting nearer!
Until next time!

Letter Y fun!

We skipped our lesson on Monday to focus all attention on Kieryn and her first school program! She was so excited! She was a monarch in their production of "BUGZ". We had Grandma come into town so she could join us for the production!

On Tuesday Micah and Ronan had fun with letter Y! We talked about things that are yellow...

We had a yogurt snack and did some letter tracing...

Then we did pieces to construct a yellow Y... I let the boys try to figure out how to get the pieces in the correct spot.

Then we went on a "yellow hunt" to find yellow things throughout the house!

On Wednesday Ronan was at Janell's they practiced lacing with letter Y and yarn! They also took time to talk about things you find in a yard! So fun!!

Kieryn had a dentist appointment in Topeka on Thursday so we did our lesson while waiting for her to finish. We constructed a Yo-Yo and watched some yo-yo tricks videos on YouTube!

Then we practiced our shapes...

On Friday we painted a train... all by "yourself" and talked about "YOU"... things you like/dislike, yucky and yummy foods, and things we do to take care of your body!

We had a fun weekend with Grandma Haug as she came down on Friday and stayed until Sunday! She came to lay with us while Daddy was at his conference in Chicago (EB). He left on Friday and gets back next Wednesday. Thanks Grandma for all your help!!

Happy Easter!

We took a break from the alphabet this past week to talk about Easter and do fun Easter activities! We started the week with dying eggs!

On Tuesday morning the kids were excited to hear peeping in our eggs that we've been incubating...

Later with Micah we did some carrot counting...

Then when Kieryn got home from school we got to see our first chick hatch!

They were so happy to get one chick! We ended up with 19 out of 24 eggs hatching! What a fun adventure! We felt pretty lucky to have so many little chick peeping in the laundry room!

On Wednesday Ronan got to do color sorting at Aunt Janell's...

They they did a number egg hunt!

On Thursday we did some egg shape matching...

Pattern practice...

And the jelly bean prayer/color match...

These are a few of the books we read this week...

On Friday we did the Resurrection eggs... inside each egg there was a part of the crucifixion story and Jesus's resurrection.

We spent Easter Sunday in Seneca with the Haug family. When we got home we were excited to see how big Ronan's "Jesus Lives Plant" had grown in one week. They buried the bean seeds in the Palm Sunday kid class. They did this to symbolize Jesus being buried and raising from the dead... it was really cool!

Wishing you and yours a very Happy Easter! Jesus is Risen!

X - cellent week with letter X!

This week we covered letter X. It's hard to believe that were nearly done with the alphabet! We began letter x with an X book and some tracing...

Then we glued some letter x items onto our X....

We talked about an x-ray and then made a pretend one using q-tips.

On Tuesday Ronan and Micah practiced letter x with "X marks the spot" and pirates! We did a flip book...

We did a look/find handout. The boys had to find what was different among the four items...

And we practiced making the letter X with pretzels and carrots. I first gave them two sticks to make the X... then I gave them 4 smaller pieces and had them try to figure out how to make an X. They did very well with it.

After a snack, we put on pirate bandanas and went on a treasure hunt!

They had to find numbers 1-8 and match them to the number on the back of the map. They took turns looking.

X marked the spot for the treasure box! Inside was a twiX!

On Wednesday Ronan was with Janell. They practiced making X with rhythm sticks. They worked on tempo and volume of taping the rhythm sticks. They also made a cool xylophone that worked on putting rectangles in order biggest to smallest.

On Thursday we did more with the xylophone... we did some tracing...

We played our toy xylophone and played a "copy me" game.

Then we worked with Ronan's name puzzle...

Then we read a Thomas book with an X in the title.

On Friday we did a listening game with a fox and a box. I gave directions as to where to put the fox and Ronan had to figure it out. I was impressed when he got the left and right sides correct!

We did a letter search...

Some tracing...

We read a book...

And then decorated a box for pretending!

Also on Friday I got to hang out with my friend Sheila! We brought the kids to an open gymnastics!

I got to hold her new little guy! He's such a cutie!

We went to the park this weekend because the weather was finally dry! We hope the sun is here to stay... for a little while anyways!

Daddy has been working hard! He's almost got the playground ready! The kids were busy playing train on the stones while Steven worked...

Until next time!
