Incredible Week!

It was an incredible week with lots of things going on! We began our letter "i" week with some icecream activities. There was letter tracing, i/I matching, and puffy paint painting.

Monday happened to be Steven's 34th birthday so it was a perfect opportunity to have cake and icecream!

Kieryn and I got all ready for the birthday dinner to surprise Daddy!

Happy Birthday Daddy! We love you!

On Monday and Tuesday we had lots of activity around our house. Ronan was in heaven with the many dump trucks, rollers, and pickup trucks around. We spent a lot of time outside on those two days watching them pave the streets in our neighborhood. We pretty much followed them around. The foremen loved the attention! The kids were calling the paving machine "Bessy" from the Disney movie Cars - when Lightning has to pull Bessy to fix the road in Radiator Springs.

On Tuesday we talked about insects. We traced letters, made shape insects, and did a color match by finding insects in the rice.

The rice was quite a hit. Ronan played in it while Kieryn was at school. It was great for pretending to do construction with his dump truck and bulldozer!

And they begged to play more with it that afternoon... how can yous say no?!?

On Wednesday we practiced tearing paper and gluing to make an igloo.

The kids made their own ice cubes... we filled these with water before Kieryn went to school and then after lunch took them out and discussed how they became ice. They played and we experimented to see which temperature of water melted the ice faster.

That evening we tried making our own igloos. We got them out again on Saturday night and finished playing/making our igloos.

On Thursday we made shape iguanas. It was fun for the kids to match the shapes and then match the correct triangle on it's back. The triangles spelled out their name so they had to glue them in the correct order. Ronan did his name part with no help! I was shocked!

We visited the fire house at Ronan's story time that day. It was neat to see the trucks but the coolest part was seeing a firefighter in all his gear. The kids were supposed to go and investigate him and give a high-five... but Ronan was very afraid of him! Wish Kieryn could have seen that one.

On Friday morning we did shape matching with a little "i". Then we watched a video about an indian rain dance. We made hats and did our own rain dance! :)

We finished up the lesson with some shape tracing. Kieryn is getting VERY good at tracing and writing her letters!

On Saturday we spent the morning at Lake Tobias Wildlife Park for a birthday party. We had so much fun! The kids got to see the animals up close and got to feed/pet some pretty impressive animals.

One even came on the bus to say hi.

It was freezing... 48 degrees and breezy, but we had a blast!

Of course, my kids couldn't wait for the dino cake! As a party favor, each kid got a dinosaur tail and mask. Kieryn and Ronan loved their tails. Kieryn wore hers the rest of the day/night...and asked to wear it to sleep too!

What a fun adventure! So glad we made it to check out the wildlife park! Until next time...

Happy Happy Home

This week we covered letter H! We began the week with letter review, and making a house out of shapes. They had to copy the picture they saw and glue the shapes on. They both did very well! (Ronan had just a little help)

Hungry hippos eating "H/h" hay!

That afternoon we made honey cakes!

Ronan just wanted the honey!

On Tuesday we wore funny hats while tracing and reading our books.

Then we talked about how we can use our hands to help eachother and others/community. They really liked it.

Later that day we had hot chocolate and counted marshmallows.

When Daddy got home that evening, we played Hungry Hungry Hippos!

On Wednesday we made helicopters and made one following numerical order and matching shapes.

Then we played a helicopter name game. The helicopters carried a load (letter clothes pin) and they had to match the clothes pins to the correct letter in their name. Ronan is really learning the letters of his name. He now says "R, Ronan" when he sees a letter R on TV or at a store.

Then we played hopscotch with some music!

On Thursday we did work with hearts. First we sorted the pile into colors, counted, and then found which had most/least.

Then we painted hearts and traced letter H

On Thursday evening we attended the 125th anniversary of the Palmyra Fire Department. They let the kids spray water, tour the trucks, and jump in a bouncy house! We were so happy to have Grandpop with us! He was able to come up for a short visit Thurs/Fri. Sadly, I didn't get a picture of him and the kids together. They did a lot of train play in the basement. They kids loved it!

On Friday we traced H/h and made a little "h" horse.

Then we did a few Halloween worksheets with counting and patterns.

We read a few Halloween books and then did a spiderweb game with the hula hoop!

Lastly for the day we made a hula skirt and danced with some music!

Ronan had fun cutting but was less than impressed with wearing a skirt. His was VERY short lived. :)

On Saturday the kids had fun playing in the bouncy house! What a great week with letter H!

Until next week...
